Spooky Sponging at Club
So today I'm sharing the card we made at club using the background sponging technique. It worked so well for this spooky sunset that silhouetted our houses. We went from gray to yellow to orange to rust and back to gray.
We used a post it note with a circle punched out to make the moon - first laying down the circle and sponging around it with the gray - then lifting it and putting the post-it with the circle punched out back down on the card to sponge the yellow for the moon. Finished with a little gray over it to look cloudy and spooky.
The houses were cut out on the Big Shot with the Homemade Holiday Framelits - just cut out of black without stamping to get the silhouette look. Then added the tree, the bats and the ghost to give it all those little Halloween touches.
Finally added the "Happy Halloween" banner and we were done. Hope you liked it - see you soon! ~Maureen

Technique Club - Background Sponging
Hope your week is off to a great start. I was able to get stamping time and family time into my weekend - so I am ready to go!
Every time I teach a technique - I realize there are so many ways to do things. I've done backgrounds with brayers, and daubers, and sponges. But for this one we're going to concentrate on using SU sponges. The sponge rounds are great - and can be cut down to 6 and even 8 wedges.
We used a very simple sponging technique - just picking up the color we wanted and pouncing it onto the cardstock. You can see by doing this rather than pushing on the sponging and spreading the color you get a more stippled affect for your background. We used a circle mask made out of a post-it to mask the area sponged. Then they could stamp their image after removing the mask for this out of the box (circle :) look -
Or stamp it while the mask was still on to contain the image.
Either way - it turned out lovely. These birds from the Wetland Set (I think they are sandpipers) are perfect on this image - looks like they are walking along the seashore - just as the bright son is starting to descend in the western sky. Such peaceful scene.
And here's a little tip to help keep your fingers clean while sponging - and also keep the right sponge with the right ink pad: TIP - Punch out a piece of cardstock the color you are using with a larger longer punch - fold in half and staple onto the sponge. Hope you can see what I mean in the example above. I just keep these in a basket and reuse them over and over.

Curvy Pumpkin Box
So one of my projects at the downline was this adorable little pumpkin treat box made with SU's new Curvy Box framelit. This framelit is amazing - you can make these cute little boxes in no time, and it is so versatile. I've seen it made into animals, purses, and of course at least one thing for each holiday. If you do treats for school, table setting or just your sweeties this is a must have!
I took pictures from two different angles so you can get and idea of how it works. You cut it out in two pieces that are already scored by the framelit, use your bone folder to crease - stamp - and then adhere your pieces together.
Then you bring up the front and back that have the handles, and bring the side pieces up that have slot that fit over the handle. It is stinkin' cute!!

DSP Projects

Beautiful realistic woodgrain
So at our last downline meeting Kathy B demonstrated how to get an amazing woodgrain look. It's done by layering several colors, including craft white and each layer moving the woodgrain over just a hair.
Here are some of the steps, and it does not do it justice - up close it looks as if you might get sliver running your finger over it.

Sarah's Project for the downline....
Each meeting a different member of my downline presents a project for the group. This month Sarah's project was featured and here she is demonstrating for the ladies what they'll be doing.
This is the great project she made for us. I had to steal these pictures from her blog - because somehow I did not get a picture of hers and did not finish mine - yet! The ladies loved making this using SU's Gift Box Punch Board.
The leaves were cut out on the Big Shot and crunched and sponged to distress - the belly band was run through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain folder and then the linen thread just finished it perfectly. Thanks for a great project Sarah.
